MacroBro ("we," "our," or "us") operates the MacroBro mobile application and website (macrobro.app). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name. We do not collect your real name, phone number, or physical address unless you voluntarily provide it.

Food & Nutrition Data: When you use MacroBro to log meals, we collect:

• Photos of food you choose to scan (processed by AI, not stored permanently)
• Voice recordings or text descriptions of meals (processed in real-time, not stored)
• Barcode numbers you scan or enter
• Meal names, macro nutrient values, and corrections you make
• Favorite meals you save

Health & Fitness Data: If you choose to use these features, we collect:

• Daily weight entries
• Calorie and macro nutrient goals
• Body metrics entered during registration (height, weight, age, sex)

Usage Data: We collect anonymous usage analytics including which features you use, API response times, and error reports to improve the app.

Device Information: We collect your IP address and device type for security and analytics purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and operate the MacroBro service
• Identify food items and calculate nutritional information
• Sync your data across devices
• Improve the accuracy of our food recognition and nutritional estimates
• Send password reset emails when requested
• Monitor and improve app performance
• Detect and prevent abuse or fraud

3. Third-Party Services

To provide our service, we share certain data with the following third-party providers:

• AI Processing Providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI/Grok): Food photos and text descriptions are sent to artificial intelligence services for food identification and nutritional analysis. These providers process data according to their respective privacy policies and do not use your data to train their models when accessed via API.
• Supabase: Your account information, meal data, and preferences are stored securely in our cloud database hosted by Supabase (PostgreSQL). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
• USDA FoodData Central: We query the U.S. Department of Agriculture's public food database to look up nutritional information. No personal data is sent to USDA.
• OpenFoodFacts: We query this open-source food product database for barcode lookups. No personal data is sent.
• Microsoft Azure: Our application servers are hosted on Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or any parties not listed above.

4. Community Data

MacroBro may use aggregated, anonymized nutritional corrections from users to improve food identification accuracy for all users. This data is fully anonymized — no individual user can be identified from community data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and meal data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your data at any time through the app Settings. If you delete your account using the "Delete Account" option in Settings, all associated data (meals, favorites, corrections, weight logs) is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. Anonymous, aggregated community data may be retained.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — all your data is visible within the app
• Correct your data — edit meals, favorites, and profile information at any time
• Delete your data — use the "Delete Account" option in Settings to permanently remove all your data

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

• All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS/SSL (HTTPS)
• Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
• Database access is protected by Row Level Security — users can only access their own data
• Food photos are processed in real-time and not permanently stored on our servers

8. Children's Privacy

MacroBro is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of MacroBro after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
